Technically to large to be strike craft. Gunships are still counted as such due to their inability to travel long distance on their own. They generally fill a variety of roles from an oversized bomber to a dropship and occasionally as an actual gunboat. Generally though they will serve more as a glorified dropship than as combat craft, being too large a target for normal bombing runs and to slow to hunt strike craft. hey are able to be effective air support on planets for ground troops, due to their larger payload of weaponry.
