Corvettes are small vessels with the main goal of acting as a cheap early warning and defense, their small size making them hard to target and detect. These vessels have little mass, so they are easier to maneuver with than larger ships, and thus are capable of active evasion. They are normally well armored and armed in order to actually damage their enemies, but are capable of fighting off much larger vessels if the ship is not armed with weapons able to counter nimble vessels. Something that these craft are especially capable of is use in point defense grids. Their size allows them to have little interference from their own hull in the targeting of enemy missiles.
